Surrender Dorothy!
I recently just had another great personal lesson in the glory of surrender and I wanted to write about that because there is such power in it.
These past six years have thrown a lot of change at me: the loss of my job, the beginning of a new career, an end of a marriage and moving to another state. Each and every time I relaxed into acceptance, things seem to change for the better. Surrender is such an odd word, because in most people's minds it means giving up.
When we are at war, we surrender because we know we are about to face dire consequences and if we do not surrender we will probably not survive.
In the laws of life, it is not so much giving up as it is moving into acceptance of what is. When we surrender to a situation, it means we are going to stop fighting it. We are going to put down our swords and relax and make friends with what is happening.
We can make friends with our uncomfortable experiences. Why would we want to do that?
Because then we won't hate them as much while we work to transition into something better.
Surrender is acceptance and we can use it as a tool for positive change during a rough transition. The most remarkable thing happens when we learn to surrender. Real change takes place. Why? Because things change when we do.
As Dr Wayne Dyer says, "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change" and that makes it easier for us to move into a place of peace while we allow God to show us the next step.
We can't hear God talk to us when our head is full of negative noisy chatter, especially because (in my experiences) God speaks to us through our conscious, our circumstances, our intuition and sometimes through others. I also call it our "Spidey" sense. We have to be awake enough and present enough to feel it.
Notice that I didn't use your heart as an example as how we should make decisions. Why? Our hearts will often lead us astray. So, what is the lesson here? Surrender, move into acceptance, learn to be still enough to listen to your inner wisdom, take divine direction and before you know it, you will see the movement that will take you right where you need to be. Surrender, Dorothy!
